Icon® Caries Infiltration

Icon infiltration is an innovative treatment for treating caries or "white-spot" cosmetic issues while preserving healthy tooth structure.

In the past, the main choices for treating early caries (cavities) were to use fluoride to remineralize the tooth enamel or take a “wait and see” approach to determine if a cavity will form. Cosmetic issues, such as white or yellow "spots" (lesions) on the front teeth, which often relate to a tooth being hypomineralized, would require enamel removal and placement of cosmetic material in order to cover the lesion.

Icon caries infiltration is a new approach to treat emerging caries and hypomineralized lesions. An infiltrant consists of micro-invasive technology that fills and reinforces demineralized enamel without drilling or anesthesia.

Caries infiltrated by Icon look like the surrounding healthy enamel. This provides a highly aesthetic alternative to fillings, all in one simple treatment with no drilling or anesthesia required.

Icon isn’t appropriate for all lesions, so it’s important to contact our office to schedule an appointment. We’ll be more than happy to let you know all your treatment options, including Icon caries infiltration.
