Separators

Separators are small rubber bands (also sometimes called spacers) placed between the back teeth to create a small space in preparation for placement of orthodontic appliances. They apply a pressure that can cause tenderness of the back teeth for a few days.

No Candy

They should be cared for with careful brushing, avoiding flossing of those specific spots (but don't forget to floss everywhere else!), and avoidance of sticky/gooey foods (such as caramels, gummies, gum).

If they fall out within a week of your next visit, no worries! If they fall out more than a week before your next visit, please call the office to schedule a replacement appointment just a few days before your next visit. Most often they fall out because there is a nice space, and they have done their job!
